They Met in Liverpool

Lisa Eriksson and Ryan Harlin are Techno Squirrels: a Los Angels based techno collaboration. They have been active musicians for a number of years – playing in bands and creating their own electronic music. Lisa and Ryan met in the UK in 1999 where they were studying sound technology at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

Lisa grew up in Sweden and in the early 90’s, she traded in her collection of Black Sabbath on vinyl for a Korg MS-10 and a Roland drum machine – completely immersing herself in Sweden’s rave/techno scene. Her musical career took flight when she had an unexpected opportunity to Bjork’s small club tour for her “Debut” CD in 1993 and experienced the sublime coexistence of melody and electro-noize. Lisa became half of the Euro-Art-Rock band, Schulte/Eriksson who were picked up by the legendary Jon Peele. She was the original singer for Ladytron and lent her voice on their breakthrough hit single, “He Took Her To A Movie”.

Interestingly, Ryan had long decried Techno music – but it was that move to England in the mid-90’s that changed everything for him. He was living in the tow of England’s famed “CREAM” dance club and couldn’t resist the electronic music of bands like Massive attack and Chemical Brothers. He started using his brother’s orchestral workstation synthesizer to experiment with his own sounds and pursued work as a computer programmer and film editor.

Their brand of techno boasts smart, poppy and completely danceable pop elements. Techno Squirrels debut full-length CD, Mute, was released in the Fall of 2006 and the duo released a follow-up EP in 2006. They are musically prolific so check their myspace page frequently for all the latest.
